Better late than never

“I didn’t start running or exercising until my early 30’s. At the time, most of the people in my life were quite surprised when I started competing in triathlons as I lived a very unhealthy life previously. Despite completing eight half and three full Ironmans, I have always told people, ‘I am not a great or natural runner. I only run because I have to in triathlon’. That all changed when I sought running advice from HOKA super-star Beth Gerdes. Beth put me on a path that enabled me to be healthy while running and build a proper foundation. This allowed me to dream big, and I started training for a 50 mile trail race. Over the course of the next four months, I fell in love with trail running. The process changed me mentally, physically and in some ways spiritually. I accepted that I might not be ‘fast’, but I was steady and strong. I let the beauty of my surroundings fuel me. The end of my first 50 mile race was one of the hardest and proudest moments of my life. I now had a life long passion that I had never seen coming. I told my 58-year-old mom who just ran her first ever 5K after many years of health issues, ‘Take it one step at a time. Showing up is the hardest part. Learn to take joy in every step after. Enjoy the moment of running free!'”- HOKA Ambassador Heather Scott
