Embrace adversity

“When I graduated high school in 2013, I had this idea that I wanted to live and train in the mountains. A couple days after graduation I took a one-way flight to Grand Teton National Park where I had secured a job as a housekeeper. I spent that summer cleaning cabins six days a week and spending my one day off to go on big runs in the mountains. I learned a lot of hard lessons my first time living away from home. Mostly that things almost never go as planned and life isn’t always fair. As cliché as it is, my motto for that summer was ‘everything happens for a reason.’ I learned to embrace adversity instead of fight it. I learned that sometimes our biggest adversities turn into our biggest opportunities if you let them. That mantra still comes to mind when things get tough and reminds me that life is as good or bad as you make it out to be.”- New HOKA Athlete Jared Hazen
